Benjamin Isaacson - Running to help those in need
After running several marathons in the past three years, I am going to run farther than I ever have before. On April 5, 2008, I will be participating in the Chicago Lakefront 50-kilometer race. This distance is about 31 miles, which is almost five miles longer than a marathon. My goal is to finish in five hours or less.
As I prepare for the race, I am raising funds for World Vision, an organization dedicated to helping children reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty. World Vision also provides emergency aid to areas affected by floods, hurricanes, and other disasters. In 2006, 87 cents of every dollar contributed went directly to programs for children and families in need. Funds raised by Team World Vision athletes will support children and families in AIDS impacted communities in Africa.
To keep me inspired as I train for the event, I'm trying to get as many people as possible to make a pledge to World Vision. You can do one or more of the following:
  • Make a pledge to contribute to World Vision based on the number of kilometers I successfully complete.
  • Pledge an additional amount if I am able to finish in five hours or less.
  • Contribute a flat donation (regardless of my performance in the race).
  • Send a message of encouragement using this contact form.
After the race is over, I will contact you with specific instructions on fulfilling your pledge. All donations to World Vision are tax-deductible and can be made via personal check or through FirstGiving, a secure web site which accepts contributions by credit card.
