Let's Race! -
The weather should be pretty good for the race tomorrow. All systems are go. Time permitting, my wife, Jenelle, will be posting updates at Ben's Running Log during the 50K. Wish me luck! :)

Training Well -
As you might be able to tell from my running blog, I've done a lot of running this month to prepare thoroughly for the 50K. I am now in the "tapering" phase, which means that I am slowly reducing the distance of my training runs to build up strength for the race. I honestly believe that I am in the best shape of my life. I am excited to put my fitness level to good use and make a solid attempt to run fifty kilometers in five hours. Onward!

A friend joins the race! -
I recently learned that my friend, Mark, who I occasionally train with on weekends, will be joining me at the 50K! His company will make the race a lot more fun. When we ran a 10-mile race together last summer, he finished about 40 seconds ahead of me. He's never even done a marathon before, so 31 miles will be a big challenge for him. I think he's up to it.

Marathon #15 Done -
I had a great time in Austin, Texas, running another marathon and making a few friends while I was down there. Details are here: Austin Recap
My recovery is going well, and I should be in excellent shape by the time April 5 rolls around. If only it could get a little warmer outside...

Marathon #14 in the books -
I ran another marathon on Saturday, Feburary 2 in Tybee Island, Georgia. What was going to be a nice, easy run turned out be one of the most exciting races of my life. Details are in my main running log: Tybee Island Marathon Recap
This is another great confidence booster for me. I've got one more marathon in Austin on February 17 to tune up for the 50K. My training continues to go very well.

This past Sunday, I achieved a personal record of 3:49:45 at the Rock N' Roll Arizona Marathon. More details are available here.
I am very optimistic that I'll be able to finish the Chicago 50K in five hours, but there's still lots of training ahead.

World Vision Gift Catalog -
Having made donations to World Vision in the past, I sometimes get mail from them. Some provide special opportunities to give, while others explain how World Vision is helping those affected by a recent disaster. The most interesting piece of mail that I have received, by far, is their Gift Catalog (which is also available online). Through this catalog, you can direct a donation through a special gift that can greatly enhance his/her life. Some of my favorite examples are:I think this is one of many great things about World Vision -- there is a stronger focus on resources that can help communities in both the short term and the long haul.

Thanks For Visiting! -
I'm thrilled to have the web site up and running. Feel free to contact me if you notice errors anywhere. More news will be added to this page as race day gets closer. I have a feeling the next 87 days will pass by rather quickly.
In other news, I have two marathons (26.2 mile races) scheduled between now and the Chicago 50K. The first of these is the Rock N' Roll Arizona Marathon, which starts this Sunday at 7:40 a.m. local time. Wish me luck!
